President Donald Trump’s administration has just slapped sanctions on 38 Russian individuals and organizations because of their involvement in actions against Ukraine, reports say.
Trump’s Treasury Department has announced the sanctions over the Russians’ efforts to annex the Ukrainian regions of Crimea and Donetsk, the Daily Caller reported.
Explaining the move:
“These designations will maintain pressure on Russia to work toward a diplomatic solution,” Secretary of Treasury Steven T. Mnuchin said in a statement. “This administration is committed to a diplomatic process that guarantees Ukrainian sovereignty, and there should be no sanctions relief until Russia meets its obligations under the Minsk agreements.”
So, what do these sanctions mean?
The 38 sanctioned individuals and entities will not be allowed to own property in the U.S., nor will Americans be allowed to do transactions with them.
And some of those being hit are…
Some of those sanctioned are key Russian officials such as Petr Jarosh, who is the head of the Russian Federal Migration Service in the separatist “Republic of Crimea.” A Russian bank, TSMRBANK, was also sanctioned as it allegedly services clients in the Russian-backed rebel states Donetsk and Crimea.
Of course, Obama did practically nothing to stop Putin’s forces from invading and stealing away the Crimea.
But the move does raise questions.
I mean, haven’t the Democrats built their “resistance” to Trump on the central claim that Trump is “working for Russia”?
How can Trump be a Russian dupe with moves like this?
Clearly Trump is not a Russian puppet if he is doing this?
The White House has also announced that Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko will soon be visiting with Trump. This would also never be happening if Trump was a Russian stooge.
